Kids’ attitude towards maths in their formative years shapes their future relationship with the subject. If they take maths lightly and rote-learn it, they miss out on its real relevance and importance in life. This may seem like a non-issue right now but in the later years, this can lead to learning gaps, avoidance of maths, or even a lifelong dislike for the subject. However, if they explore maths with curiosity and enthusiasm, they have fun with it and make it a friend for life. The key here is to foster a positive attitude towards maths and make it engaging and enjoyable, just like a favourite playmate.
Kids are like wet clay. They can be moulded in any way. That is why, if we spark their interest in maths from the very beginning, it becomes an easy and enjoyable subject for life. Play Maths is a small step in this direction. It seeks to make learning fun and help kids internalise the basic concepts of maths and develop confidence by applying what they’ve learnt.
Play Maths, based on NCERT Class 1 syllabus, is an engaging tool that complements the school curriculum and promotes growth mindset. It follows the adventures of two brothers and uses the time-tested power of storytelling and games to create an immersive and entertaining learning experience. Play Maths encourages children to approach maths with a positive attitude by igniting curiosity and creativity. This approach helps develop their problem-solving skills, logical reasoning and critical thinking abilities, all while having fun.
Originally Play Maths was planned as a paper-and-pencil tool, but based on the inputs from eminent educators and psychologists, we have developed an online interactive version as well. This conscious decision was driven by the fact that today’s children, who are drawn to digital devices, have different learning needs. Since banning screen-time is not practical in this day and age, our goal is to provide a constructive alternative to frivolous screen-time by engaging kids in active learning that makes them future-ready. The games, developed in consultation with the experts of the field, help kids understand the real-life applications of maths and inculcate good habits. These simple games, which were well-received by school leaders from around the world, are positive, non-addictive and easy on the eyes. The objective of these games is to help today’s children build a strong base because a strong foundation of maths is like an investment; an investment that will pay throughout life.
Let’s make learning fun and exciting!
